How to make every day a good hair day

GHD CURVE CLASSIC WAVE WAND, £129

I’m forty now, out the other side of cancer, a well established beauty journalist, an expert in hair (on paper), but in real life? Um, Not so much. Because until recently, I’ve been terrible at doing it.

The unruly nature of my hair defeated me until well into my thirties. Post chemo regrowth, my hair was all the things hair could be, but all at once; straight, wavy, curly, coarse, limp, fine, impossible. A bad workman always blames his tools, sure, but in all honesty, when I finally found my tool I was suddenly good at my hair, great at it in fact.

So it wasn’t me you see, I was a good workman waiting to happen, it just took till I was thirty five for ghd to come up with the goods. Classic Wave Wand is an elliptical wand that - when I first tried it, confused - magically allowed me to create natural, defined waves all by myself. Shiny ones, in a relatively short amount of time, but every time.

I don’t need professional blowdries anymore, I get ‘how do you do your hair?’ requests on Instagram. I suddenly became so good at it that while my compulsive blowdry habit was still petering out, if I had one I’d tell my hairstylist the direction of wave I wanted. I’d even give a demo, and then eight out of ten times I’d redo the front myself. But if they didn’t have ghd curve in their salon I was rubbish at it again.

God that thing is good
