I don’t mean to toot my own trumpet, but here, some relevant credentials that have led to this;
My name is Sophie, award winning journalist, Sunday Times columnist, and mother (finally).
THE MOTHER PROJECT started as an idea, hatched on a car journey somewhere, once we realised my cancer-induced infertility meant we’d need to find extreme alternative means.
ME: ‘Babe. I think surrogacy is interesting, journalistically. And I think it might help me, you know, mentally, if I wrote it out.’
MR. B: ‘Sure, Whatever helps my love’
ME: ‘But like, in a national newspaper?’
He winced - understandably - but he also understood that if my writing about my experience could help me, then it might help others too. And so as we embarked upon our surrogacy project, The Mother Project was born, published as a weekly column by The Times, and charting every earth-tilting moment of the rollercoaster ride to our daughter, Marlies.
This platform is a space to share what I’ve learned with the mutually supportive community who have steadily built a wonderful network along the way. Or anyone embarking on, interested in or living their own mother or father project. That’s pretty much everyone then. That’s you. Welcome to the family
